The Village at Mendota Heights Raises Money, a New Flag and Sprits for the Community
Area residents of all ages were dancing on the Village green at Market Square Friday night, June 2, at the first Taste of the Village event. Come Saturday morning, many gathered to view a new commemorative flag created especially to honor the 50th Anniversary of the City of Mendota Heights in a special flag-raising ceremony.
More than 1,000 people turned out that Friday evening to sample fine cheeses, wine, ice cream and other goods at the outdoor Market Square at Village At Mendota Heights in what looks like a natural destination for citizens not only of Mendota Heights but also nearby cities such as Sunfish Lake, West St. Paul, Inver Grove Heights and other locations. The event raised more than $1,300 dollars for the city. Retailers such as E’s Cheese, an exceptional gourmet shop, Caribou Coffee, Cold Stone Creamery and The Wine Market catered to the crowd while others danced to live music on a picture perfect evening.
The next morning, early risers experienced a stirring drum/chant performance by Thunder Nation featuring four members the Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota tribe and a moving version of the National Anthem sung by renowned jazz singer Connie Evingson. Then a special flag commissioned by The Village at Mendota Heights development company was raised next to the U.S. and Minnesota state flags. While more than 100 runners for a 5K race stood by with local residents, the new commemorative flag was also presented to Mayor John Huber of the City of Mendota Heights by developer, Ross Fefercorn, Chief Manager of Mendota Heights Town Center, LLC.
